Groovin the Moo

As festival season is soon arriving in the Aussie wonderland, let's talk about a festival exclusive to the land down under. Groovin the Moo (GTM) is an annual festival held in all six of our states. Although summer is the best time to fest it up, Groovin is hosted during our lovely Autumn season in May.

GTM's history only goes back 13 years, into the depths of Gloucester NSW with 1800 people actually turning up. As of 7 years ago, was GTM's most prominent festival as it featured a headlining Australian act - Hilltop Hoods, and International act performed by the Black Keys. Spilt Milk may have been a big deal for Canberra, but Groovin even brought Vince Staples to the territory.

What does groovin the moo even mean though? Groovin obviously means to get your jiggy on and boogie your heart out and moo is often mistaken in context for a cow, but in fact, it's an abbreviation for a cow paddock. Groovin is mostly held in regional/rural footy fields, show grounds or other sports fields in regional Australia. Hence, that's how the name came about as people Groove on the Moo.

Groovin has also been one of the first festivals in Australia to feature a pill testing tent. In fact, it was rather successful in the ACT this year. Essentially, a tent is put up with professionals who test your pills to see the content inside of the pills that festival goers have purchased.  Groovin also is going green! Groovin sold reusable water bottles to refill at stations throughout the festival to not only encourage environmental sustainability but the safe consumption of drugs.

So get keen for next year to have a groove on the Moo.
Later Gators xx

Since being founded in 2003, Defqon 1. has been an annual music festival that takes place in Australia, the Netherlands and Chile. The music featured in festivals consists of Hardstyle, and when i say hardstyle i mean every type of hardstyle.
  • Hard trance
  • Hard techno
  • Hard house
You name it, we play it. In fact, when in the Netherlands  Defqon 1. has up to 14 stages and in Australia it has 7. The set list for the stages features the most prominent and relevant artists including well-established ones as well as up and coming ones too.

For Defqon 1 rookies - yes speaking directly to those of you who have yet to embark on the journey to infamous island with the sole purpose of conquering Defqon 1. land - you will never fully fathom the greatness that awaits you until you actually experience it.

So for those of you yet to experience the great tales first hand (as you may have heard through the grapevine) please view the guide below:

WHAT TO WEAR

Defqon 1. is not as simple as a walk in the park. With up to 14 stages and several hours of dancing it is recommended that people do not turn up in the "10-inch stilletos". The most common and preferred shoe to wear to a Defqon 1. festival is a pair of Nike Air Maxes.

There is no dresscode - in fact it is suggested that the crazier the outfit - the better your experience. The rave scene welcomes individuality and festival- comfort attire.

WHAT TO DO
The first and foremost rule is to enjoy yourself. Make sure to have your ears kissed by the magic of 150BPM. The atmosphere simply blows away individuals in astonishment of the adrenaline rush ignited within you when the sweet sounds of hardstyle blare through the human body's colossal sound system for the first time.  Hardstyle will be blasting in all its glory - so expect the constant chest-pumping vibrations fro the penetrating bass.

A message from Q-dance the creator of Defqon:
"Defqon 1.  is undoubtedly one of the most life-changing, crazy adventures a music lover will ever experience. Fun can be found on every square meter of this notorious island. We recommend you explore this world of madness and check out what each stage has to offer! Get a true taste of the diverse sub-genres and cultures that constitute one of the biggest global dance music festivals".

Tune in for more tomorrow!

The Ultra lineup could be huge

Author: Ryan Dragostinov

While the Christmas holidays edge ever closer, so do the classic end of year festivals - Falls, Corona sunsets, Field Day, FOMO... they have been running every year and their lineups are pretty decent to be fair. But there's one event which we haven't really seen before, not in Sydney, not even in Australia - Ultra Music Festival.

Ultra is somewhat a titan amongst international EDM festivals, with counterparts across the world and its most famous one being held in Miami. But unsurprisingly, we haven't seen it here yet.

Australia is no stranger to getting shafted when it comes to good lineups and there's a reason everyone says that the festivals are better overseas, we just can't seem to pull the same world-class acts that you see at events like Ultra Miami and Tomorrowland. But that might be about to change.

With Australia getting its first official Ultra festival in February 2019, we might just get a taste of what we've been missing out on.

Of course, looking at the previous Ultra Miami lineups, we won't be getting lineups that huge. Firstly, because the Sydney festival will only be a one day event (the second day being in Melbourne). Secondly, it's in Australia..

BUT, Ultra does events across the world, even Bali. Looking at the lineup above,
they got Hardwell, ZEDD and Kygo. Surely Australia's first ever Ultra is going to have a lot to live up to, fingers crossed they deliver.

Here are some acts we could possibly get:
Hardwell, Armin Van Buuren, Tchami, Tiesto, and if we're extremely lucky, JOYRYDE.

That's all for today, stay tuned for more news to come
